BOYTOONS MAGAZINE #155 – Forgiving the Y!

Howdy friends…

A little while ago, I noticed that the Y! Gallery was doing a forgiveness campaign. Essentially what that means is that they were willing to welcome back some of the artists who had been previously banned for breaking the gallery’s terms of services.

I should point out here that several years ago, I had an unpleasant encounter with some of the moderators.  However, I  was never actually banned from the Y!, only suspended for the slight misunderstanding! The incident did end my postings for a while.

Still, that got me thinking.

Since my initial yuckiness with the Y! a few years back, I refused to post any of my artwork, but I have kept an eye on the Gallery because there are a lot of very talented artists who do post their works there. I enjoy their work. I have become friends with some of them and I keep in touch with them through the Y! I’ve also noticed that a lot of artists there have created some beautiful Class Comics fan art which they have posted over the past couple of years.

So in the interest of keeping in touch with the many great folks who use the Y! as a means to network and display their artwork, I decided it was high time to put the past behind me.

If the Y! can forgive, then I can forgive the Y!

So I have resumed keeping up my page on the Y! Gallery. I have also taken the opportunity to start up a club called “Club Class” where artists who have created fan art based on the Class Comics characters can post their work.

That doesn’t mean I’ll be posting like crazy, but in the end, I figure what’s ultimately important is to focus on the positive aspects of things. I am a fan and supporter of any artist who creates male erotic art, and let’s face it, the Y!Gallery is one of the first places such artists go to show their wares. So I may not have had the best relationship in the past with a couple of the moderators, but that’s water under the bridge now.

What matters to me is the community aspect that the Y!, whether deliberately or inadvertently, encourages. It really is a great place to meet new artists and to discover upcoming talent. Plus, posting a pic once in a while can be fun. It’s gets a good buzz going for everyone, and can lead to some great networking.

On the cover of today’s issue is my rendition of one of my fave Darkstalkers characters: Demitri Maximoff. I created him as a special thank you to all my pals on the Y! I’ve always loved Demitri and he has always seemed so sexy to me. Of course I had to draw him bustin’ out of his oh-so-tight costume. I figured you lovely people might enjoy a peek at him as well.

So, I suppose it’s better to let go of old, yucky crap than to keep holding on to it. Letting it go opens up new opportunities, and that’s ultimately what’s important to me!

Enjoy Demitri folks! More from me shortly!

Patrick XOXOX

  1. Sadly, I just left. I was told I wasn’t allowed to upload cover or pages from my comics in order to promote them because…I did not draw them. :(

I can see why the policy is there, but I only use y! to promote–there was no reason to stay. The sense of community that used to be there is pretty much gone.

Well, I know that lots of people have had really different experiences regarding Y! and although its unfortunate that some have been shitty, I for one have had nothing but good times there. I’m so happy to hear you’ll be posting there again. I remember back when all that drama happened, and I do agree that it was ridiculous. I think the Y! has kind of cleaned up its act as they’ve gotten rid of the most problematic rule – that is, the furry ban and the resulting drama around what constitutes a furry and what doesn’t.

Aside from that, I don’t know if she was involved in the drama relating to you, but I think the one mod who was considered the most immature and bitchy (I won’t mention specific names) has either left or been banned. That said, I hope your experience from here on at the Y! is nothing but pleasant. The site is really lacking without your awesome talent. Hell, I practically have you to thank for introducing me to the wonderful world of yaoi, from the long ago times when I first saw your stuff on GayYaoiAndMore, or whatever it was called…

  3. I was like u, Patrick, a few months ago. Slightly annoyed but willing to put water under the bridge and not let the actions of a few bad apples ruin my enjoying that site. BUT, of course, they angered me once again and I yanked everything off out of spite.

They banned my drawing of Zangief because it has my signature linepaper motif in the background (mind you, no lines went thru the image. Apparently lines of any form are not allowed.) After some arguing with a mod, I realized it was pointless. I get very personally offended when I’m told there’s something wrong with my artwork.

Anyways, effin WICKED Demitri piece, bro! He is such a hottie– and you rendered him like the sex magnet he is! I’d love to see him stickin’ it to that douchebag Donovan! haha! ttyl, buddy!

  4. Unfortunately I’m not an artist, so I really don’t know much about this site. But I feel the need to look it all up in it’s mighty glory, especially if so much talented artists are going there.

  5. They can be a bit weird with their policies, but I’m glad you went back. You’re the reason I started posting there, dude!

  6. Glad to see you back, but it’s actually the first time I “watch” you.
The Club Class is a mighty fine idea!
    Kudos, see you there…

  7. Hey Tina…

I’m so sorry to hear that. It’s a real shame because I feel one of the true beauties of the Y! is how most people who post there network and support one another. It’s a great place to find out what everyone is up to — and that should include writers and other creative folk… Alas, would that we could make the rules.

Nevertheless, I have no doubt these people will continue to follow your work via your website.

Much love to you, my dear friend!

  8. Hello Seraphicreverie…

It’s so great to hear from you here at BTM too!!! :oD Thanks so much for all the kind words. I also really hope that my experience with the Y! will be good from this point on. it’s certainly been cool so far since I started posting there again. Mostly, I love the other users of the Y! Everyone has been so welcoming and supportive, and that’s pretty much why I post there.

I look forward to continuing to do so, but remain cautious and always make sure that what I post falls well within the guidelines. Not doing so is what got me in trouble the first and second time around! LOL!

As for the mods — yes, there was one particular one back when the shit hit the fan who seemed to be all power trippy — but she seem to be gone now. Good riddance to bad rubbish I say! LOL!

Loads of luv to ya! And thanks again for stopping by!

  9. Hey JC…

Dude, I am so sorry to read that things went sour again with the Y! It totally blows because your Zangief illustration is absolutely ROCKIN’, and hello — the lines are totally a decorative motif! ARGH!!

Again, I’m so sorry to read this!

As for me, I am posting again, but being cautious about it. I am not above expecting getting suspended someday for whatever reason. I try to adhere to their TOS as best I can, but you never know. It’s not like anyone deliberately sets out to break them! I’ve always maintained that the TOS can be a bit tricky to sort out sometimes and open to interpretation. So we’ll see… o_O

Meanwhile, thanks for the kind words regarding my Demitri illustration. He was so fun to draw, and of course I’m thrilled that a fellow Capcom-nut like yourself appreciates the pic!

Thanks again for taking the time to write, dude.
BIG hugz + kisses to ya!

  10. Hey there GayComicGeek…

You know a lot of people who are not artists themselves have profiles at the Y! It allows them to view all the member galleries and artwork. There is some really gorgeous artwork being posted there. I think you’d enjoy checking it out!

    loads of luv to ya!

  11. Hiya Vishis…

Awww…thanks so much, dear friend. :o)

Yeah, the TOS can be a little confusing at times, but I am doing my best to stay within the guidelines. Plus interacting with you and the others there has been very fun and rewarding! It’s definitely been worth putting old water under the bridge with the Y!

    Lotsa luv to ya!
    Patrick XOXOX

  12. Hi there B3nco…

Thanks so much! Yeah, I’ve “met” a lot of first time watchers of my stuff since coming back to the Y! It’s been really great! And I’m thrilled you’re enjoying Club Class. I’ve had a blast seeing all the artwork people have posted to the Club so far!!!!

    Thanks again for stopping by!
    Hugz + Kisses to ya!

  17. Hey Quickhoof…

Sorry for not getting back to you sooner. I only just now checked my comment. It’s been a few days since I last checked them. But I am glad you found the site. I am sure you will really enjoy all the wonderful artists and content there. :o)

    Hugz + Kisses,

  18. That Y!-Forgiveness tstuff is somewhat… “meh”. Lemme say, some artist are being banned for “painting inhuman cocks” (like big, uncut or veiny cocks inhuman), others are being banned for censoring their work, etc. Not to mention some mods hack into the account of some users to edit content.

If you ask me Y! should ask for forgiveness first, not the artists!
