Goodbye sweet Mayson! :(

Good morning my dear friends…

I wanted to say a great big thank you to each and every one of you. Your words of kindness and support for our beloved kitty Mayson were greatly appreciated.

I am so very sad to tell you that Fraser and I had to let our little girl go this past Friday, February the 16th. She was only 6 and we had only known her for 5 short, but wonderful years.

She was so very ill, and her Vet, a lovely and very kind woman named Dr. Cooper did all she could for her. But our little Mayson (or Maymay as we loved to call her) was just too sick and suffering far too much. Not being able to see her in pain any longer, we did the only thing we could do. It was the most difficult thing I’ve ever had to do.

There has been a lot of tears and sorrow over here, and we miss her immensely. She truly was a wonderful companion, who had a great deal of curiosity and zest for life. She brought so much joy and love into our lives and her absence hurts tremendously.

I know that this is not the sort of posting most of you come to BTM for… but I felt you would want to know.

Again, my sincerest thanks to you all. Your words of encouragement and support meant so much to both Fraser and I in this most difficult time.

I leave you for now with a very silly photo of Mayson. She is guarding one of comic boxes, with a packing peanut in her mouth. Fraser and I always loved this crazy little photo. We always felt we could hear her giggle in it! That’s the kind of kitty she was. And this is the sort of memory that is important to hold on to.

Much love to you all,
Patrick (+ Fraser)

  1. Patrick,

It’s been a while since Ive been to the blog with all that’s going on with me, but had read in passing a while back about your cat being sick but did not think it was so bad. I’m sorry to hear of your loss, very sorry. All my best wishes, as pets are great, and sad to hear you guys lost one.

  2. I´m so sorry for you guys.

Loosing a pet is just like loosing a family member.

I have had different pets before that ivé lost but it´s just the way of things and you can do nothing but give them your love and affecting for the time they are given.

I have 2 babys myself i don´t know how i am going to handle it when the time comes but its allways there in the back of my mind.

  3. I’m very sorry to hear about your loss. I have a pet myself (a puppy), and I’ve grown very attached to her. I would be devastated if I lose her.

Adorable photos. As long as you have Mayson in your memories, things will be all right in the long run.

You, Fraser, and Mayson are in my thoughts.

  4. Patrick,

I’m a long time reader and fan, and I just wanted to extend my sympathies to you and Fraser. I know exactly what you are going through, as I had to put down a 9 month old kitten 3 years ago. The vets never found out why his open sore would not clot and heal after 4 months. After he got deathly ill twice in January, I made the hardest decision of my life to end his suffering. Not only was I grieving alone, I still had to care for his only littermate who was so lonely. I eventually rescued him a friend, but you can never replace a loved pet. I will keep you and Fraser in my thoughts.

  5. Dear Patrick

I’m so sorry that you had to put your cat down.
I know it isn’t easy. I had to put my cat of 13 years down because of a rare cancer.

So I feel your pain brotha.

We animal lovers have to stick together.
I will pray that your feeling of loss is happy.
    Wish you the best

    P.S. I’m a bit teary eyed.

  6. I’m sorry that you and Fraser have lost such an adorable part of your family. I hope you can both have a peaceful time in your grief and work to enjoy fond memories of Mayson.

  7. oh Patrick, I am so sorry to hear this. She sounded like the perfect kitty cat, as well as someone you and fraser loved dearly.

I know what its like to lose a loved pet, cause you have lost a friend. My dear cat Timmy, who lived to be 14, had to be put to sleep 2 years ago. He was brought into the vets, and had to stay overnight, when I got a call the next day hearing it was a tumor he had, the vet asked me for my permission to have him put to rest… it was the hardest thing I’ve ever done, and I just broke down.

I’ve got a new kitty now, not to replace Tim, cause I loved him so much, but as a companion, Penny.

I know what you and Fraser must have gone through. You both have my love and best wishes.
Just have this thought though, Maymay had a very good life and was very well loved.

  8. Hi Patrick

I’m so sorry to hear about Mayson. I am a cat lover myself and I know how devestating it can be to lose a beloved pet. My toughts are with you and Fraser.

    LOTS of LOVE

  9. I am so sorry to hear the bad news. I have had my cat since I was in the sixth grade. She is around 15 or so. I know she has only a little time left. She is in good heath so hopefully she won’t go soon.

  10. Dear Patrick and Frasier,

As the “mom” of 5 feline kids (my partner of 26 years is the “dad”), I know how much Mayson must have meant to you. We will be devastated when one of our 3 girls or 2 boys leaves us. (We keep telling ourselves we won’t adopt any more but we said that when we brought home the first two, too).
Please accept my heartfelt condolences on your loss…

  11. I am totally sorry to hear that Mayson has gone from You… =( As I said before, we always had cats in our homes and hearts and I feel for You and Fraz…

Honestly, my sincerest regards and all the best… =(

  12. Dear Patrick,
So sorry to read of your loss. I think I speak for us all when I say that we appreciate you taking the time to let us know. Love to you and Fraser.

It sounds like Mayson was quite the character: which can only mean she led a happy life, and that’s what is important!! And I’m sure if she could have one last miaow she’d thank you for your love.

    A big bunny cuddle,
    Wabbit xx

P.s. On the subject of pets I have to make the decision whether to get my bunny’s balls removed! Poor lil scamp…

  14. Just a note to white wabbit, if you get bunny neutered he’ll live longer and he’ll be easier to litter-train. I’ve had my little fuzzy boy for going on 7 years now and he’s a delight. A pain in the ass sometimes, but he never fails to amuse us.

And to Patrick, Maymay had such a loving home and she looks like she was a pretty kitty! I’m so sorry for your loss, it hurts terribly when our “furkids” pass on.

    A big hug for you.

  18. Sorry to hear about Mayson, man. I know how devastating something like this can be. Give it a while before you try and get another cat.

Your personal posts are always so sincere. Thanks for sharing and know that you have all of our support. :)

My condolences, Patrick. That does sound really difficult and your cat sounded like a wonderful companion. Personally, I’ve never had a pet, so I can only imagine how painful it is. We’re all here to support you, so it’s totally ok to post other things, especially in difficult times like this.

I’m sure Mayson’s resting in peace.

    *big hug*

  20. I’m very sorry for your loss. I too had a six year old cat who was very sick and died and it was horrible to go through.

Your Mayson was beautiful and I’m sure she enjoyed every moment she shared with you.
