Logan is a consummate artist who approaches each comic he works on with absolute professionalism and focus.  And Deimos is no exception!  These wickedly detailed story boards from the up-coming Deimos #2 hint at the eye candy to come and serve as a map for the final art which Logan creates based upon these sketches.

Sethan and Deimos get a little sexy time! Storyboards from Deimos #2 by Logan.

Logan has put a lot of effort into designing the look and feel of this latest issue.  The locations are superbly detailed, the characters are scorching hot and best of all, he brings my script to life in a way that I could never have myself.  I’m not selling myself short — it’s simply that Logan is a master story teller who completely immerses himself in his work!  He’s a joy to write for.

Bob screws the Hell out of some poor demon, while Azagoth wonders if now would be a good time to deliver some bad news! Deimos #2 storyboards by Logan.

I hope you enjoy this cool “behind the scenes” glimpse at Deimos #2.  The final art on the issue itself is well underway, and features a lot more of Bob, Sethan, Azagoth, a HORRIFYING new demon called Obscene and of course, that grouchy but lovable Taro Demon himself, Deimos.

Stay tooned for more info on this book, gang!  See ya tomorrow!

Hugz + kisses, Patrick XOXO

R U Hungry for Deimos? A post a day – Day 7

Beautiful Deimos fan art by Leon de Leon/Urbanmusiq.

Beautiful Deimos fan art by Leon de Leon/Urbanmusiq.

Well folks, I did it – 7 straight days of postings! I hope you enjoyed it as much as I did. I will have to repeat this little posting spree in the very near future!  And don’t worry, just because this “A post a Day” thing is done, doesn’t mean I’m dropping off the face of the earth!  No-no!  I have some goodies planned for you all next week!

Meanwhile, how fitting is it that my week of posting should end the way it began – with a STUNNING PIECE OF FAN ART by my pal Leon de Leon!!  Only this time, Leon has drawn Deimos for me – and might I add that he has done an exquisite job!

The thing I love about Leon’s sublime illustrations is that he focuses on EVERY detail.  Just look at the attitude in the faces of his subjects.  You can tell he really goes that extra mile to infuse his subjects with life.  It’s not an effort that is lost on me, as I have often said that drawing erotica is almost more about the attitude of the piece than about the penis you put into it… NOT than anyone minds seeing Deimos’ yummy taro stick! LOL!  ;)

So you guys, really – if you haven’t checked out Leon’s amazing artwork, please do so.  He does not disappoint, I guarantee you that!

Thanks so much to everyone for following my little week of posts.  It was such a blast to put these together for all of you!  And Thanks again Leon for creating this exceptionally gorgeous fan illustration of my Deimos!  Words can’t really describe how much I freakin’ love it!!!

See ya soon, my friends!  Meanwhile, I am off to drool over Leon’s pic of Deimos some more!  LOL!

Convention Style Sketches! A post a day – Day 4

A lot of my fans and readers have asked me to make more of  my original art available for purchase.  Last year, Fraser and I thought we’d put a cool new spin on the idea of selling my originals, so we offered up “Convention Style Sketches Originals” – affordable, hand-drawn original pencil and ink sketches created by yours truly, featuring your Class Comics character of choice!

We were absolutely floored by the response.  I believe there were 40 available slots, and they filled up in no time!  And I LOVED seeing the character choices people made.  Some of them were a terrific, unexpected surprise!!

Convention style sketches are fun because they are very loose and freeing.  I don’t feel huge stress when I create them for a fan because they are meant to be an “inspiration of the moment” sort of drawing, and take roughly half an hour to forty-five minutes long to draw.  They’re a lot of fun, and today I wanted to share a few of the drawings that I created as a result!

Class Comics JAM POSTER – by Jacob Mott!

Good morning my friends…

Today I want to talk to you about this AMAZING new Jam Poster that Jacob Mott created for us here at Class Comics.  It’s absolutely stunning!  I have one hanging in my studio, and it’s all I can do to peel my eyes away from it long enough to get any work done! HA! HA! HA!

As you know, Jacob Mott is the artist drawing the new NAKED JUSTICE: Beginnings series (look for issue #1 to be out in early 2009!).  I love Jacob’s take on NJ and naturally was burning to see how he would draw most of my other Boytoons.  Jacob was happy to oblige and a few short days later, I received this incredible illustration from him.

It features 18 of my Boytoons, including the 4 heavy-hitters: Zahn, Naked Justice, Cam and Deimos! Plus it introduces you to 4 brand new characters from the NJ Beginnings series.  Horsefly, Glow Worm, Trip and the Size King are all part of the Unrivaled Alliance and as you can see, they are hot, hot, HOT!

So I’m encouraging you all to check this print out! It’s available in 2 sizes, 13 X 19 and 8.5 X 11.  It’s glossy, it’s gorgeous, and it’s a piece of Gay Pop Culture Art!  Plus, it’s LIMITED!  So you’ll wanna get yours while ya can!

I dunno about you, but this just whets my appetite for NJ’s new series.

More from me shortly, my friends. Hugz + kisses to you all!

BOYTOONS MAGAZINE #142 – Advertising Class!

I just finished putting together an advertisement for the next Diamond Previews Adult catalog.  This ad was for my upcoming Striptease book (by the way, I’ll chat more about Striptease very soon!).  I was quite pleased with it and it occurred to me that I’ve never really talked about the advertising side of things with you guys.

It’s funny you know – I love to design.  That isn’t to say I think I’m any good at it, but I approach every piece with a lot of enthusiasm.  Graphic Design and creating advertisements can be a blast and a great way to take a break from my drawing, but it can also be very stressful!

You can’t help but feel the pressure, because each piece you do has a lot riding on it.  After all, you are trying to sell the product you’re advertising, and hopefully entice bookstores and readers to invest in that product.

Each ad we put together at Class Comics begins with the whole team sitting down and coming up with ideas – brainstorming!  What do we want to say?  What do we want to show?  What don’t we want to show and keep a surprise for the readers?

We have to keep in mind what publication we are creating the ad for.  What are its dimensions and specs, and just as importantly, what are its criteria.  Though some publications are aimed at adult readers, like the Diamond Previews Adult Catalog for example, there is still a strict “no penis” policy.  So each ad for Diamond needs to be approached very carefully.  We constantly have to find creative new ways to hide our Boytoons’ bits, but still arouse interest.

Covers for the Previews Adult catalog are always such a pleasure, but sometimes need to be turned around on tight deadlines, so there is rarely time to create brand new artwork for them.  For this latest one advertising Rapture #3, I had to resort to older images that could still promote the book, even if they did not feel all that new to me.  But on some covers, like the one advertising Brother to Dragons, I’m lucky enough to get awesome new artwork from the series’ artist, just in time to compose the piece.  In this case, Carlos García was sweet enough to work under the most impossible deadline and whip up these 2 gorgeous illustrations of Alai and Jiki!

Recently I had to create an ad for the Program of the HX Gay Erotic Expo held in New York.  That was SUCH a blast.  Their instructions to us: “Make it as explicit as you like”! WAH-HOO!  Rarely do I get to haul out the big guns.  It felt so nice to have the opportunity to put something together that did not hide any part of our Boytoons.  It was tricky choosing the illustrations that went into the piece, but in the end, I think I got a fun cross-section of our books. Here we opted to let the images speak for themselves, using only a minimal amount of text.

In-house advertising, basically the ads we use on the Class Comics family of Blogs and Websites are obviously less restrictive about content.  I can show as much penis as I want, but no matter what the purpose of an ad, I always try to abide by the following 3 rules…

1. Never lie!  Don’t make bullshit up to sell a product.  It’s perfectly fine to extol the virtues of a product, and the spin you give things is super important, but you’ll just piss off your readers if you promise stuff that isn’t part of the actual product!

2. Less is more!  Don’t give everything away.  People like to know what to expect from a book, but only to a degree!  You want people to get excited about what you’re advertising, but you also don’t want to spoil the fun of actually reading the book!  You want to give them the opportunity to be surprised and discover stuff too!

3. Give it everything you’ve got! And by that I mean, get as creative as you can.  I swear, it makes a difference how invested you get in your advertising pieces.  If it’s worth doing, its well worth doing right, and your fans and readers will appreciate that you hold them in high enough regard to give them the best teasers you possibly can!

Anyhoo, dear friends… I hope you’ve enjoyed this little tour of my advertising portfolio and my impressions of advertising and graphic design in general.  I’ll see you all again very soon!

Hugz + Kisses,
Patrick XOXO
