Camili-Cat: Prelude to a Ruse. A post a day – Day 06

Yes. I know. This Camili-Cat STRIPSHOW episode is supposed to be for this month’s newsletter subscribers only… but I had so much fun creating it that I just had to share it with all of you here.

As you know, BOYTOON ADVENTRES #1 is now available in digital format, and this little comic was created in celebration of that and as, well… a prelude to the Cam story called “The Ruse” in BOYTOON ADVENTRES #1… or in book 1 part 1 for those of you into the digital version.

A special Camili-Cat STRIPSHOW episode celebrating the digital release of BOYTOON ADVENTURES#1. Art and story by Patrick Fillion (Drawing as Bryce Peters).

Cam sure knows how to find trouble, doesn’t he? I hope you boys and girls enjoy the comic and that you’re all having a great Saturday night. See ya tomorrow for Day 07!

Oh, and PS — if you’ve missed previous episodes of the STRIPSHOW, you can see them here on the Class Comics website.

Hugz + kisses for every0ne! Patrick  XOXO

BOYTOON ADVENTURES book 1, now available digitally! A post a day – Day 05

Evenin’ friends!

It’s been over a year since the release of the first Class Comics trade paperback, BOYTOON ADVENTURES, and I’m pleased to announce that it’s now available in digital format as well as in print. Because the original print version is almost 100 pages, we decided to split the digital edition into two parts.

The cover to Class Comics' BOYTOON ADVENTURES #1, part 1 - The digital edition. Art by Patrick Fillion (Drawing as Bryce Peters).

I drew (as Bryce Peters of course! XD) two new covers for BOYTOON ADVENTURES #1 Part 1 and Part 2, and both parts include cool bonus material.  In fact, part 2 includes a 31-page bonus section called “The Bryce Peters Sketchbook”.  It features concept sketches, unused art and pages from the book,  never before seen illustrations and a ton of other cool stuff. Part 2 also includes some previews of BOYTOON ADVENTURES #2, which I am currently working on.

I absolutely LOVE drawing in this style.  I love the freeness of it and the dynamic end result.  It’s a ton of fun, and I found these two new covers to be an particular delight to create, from the pencils, to the inks to the colors.  Somehow drawing in the Bryce style is incredibly satisfying. Don’t worry, I’ll never stop drawing in my classic way, but this style is a nice break from the usual routine from time to time.

So, if you haven’t read BOYTOON ADVENTURES yet, then the digital version(s) is a great way to go.  For more info on BOYTOON ADVENTURES, check out this cool Class Comics article and this awesome article over on my FRASER’s website. It shows a ton of pics from the book(s). Enjoy my friends, and I’ll see you guys again tomorrow for Day 06!

Hugz + kisses to you all, Patrick! XOXOX

Cool but unused! A post a day – OVERTIME – Day 9

Hello folks…

Today we take a look at some art created for Camili-Cat: Felinoids #3 and Boytoon Adventures #1… Art that may be kinda cool, but ultimately was never used.

Initially, I had mapped out an entire sex scene for the end of Felinoids #3 in which Cam fucks Locus. It may have gotten cut, but I have always loved the energy of this particular panel!

I yanked this entire panel out from Felinoids #3, page 9 and replaced it with a completely different image. In the end, it was for the best, even if this original panel is still kinda hot!

Even cover sketches go unsued -- Actually, ESPECIALLY cover sketches!! Until the perfect illustration is hatched, I keep sketching until I get it right. This image may be hot, but ultimately was too hard core and didn't quite convey what I wanted for Felinoids #3.

See, as an artist, you always end up penciling WAY more stuff than you ever end up inking — well I certainly do, in any case! I personally have drawers filled with pencil sketches that will never be finalized.

I once struggled with this notion.  I guess a part of me sorta felt like the stuff was wasted.  But now I don’t think that way anymore.  I realize that sometimes to get to a great final product, you have to cut stuff that just doesn’t add to the quality of the project in question.  That doesn’t mean the stuff you cut is crap… it just means that you either run out of space, or come up with things that work better in the overall scheme of things.

An unused cover sketch for Boytoon Adventures #1. Fun, but a bit boring in my humble opinion! LOL!

A sexy little skech of Cam that I always meant to ink as a Boytoon Adventures pin-up, but never got around to. I do so like Camili-Cat's little bubble butt here though! HA! HA! HA! Meanwhile, I couldn't quite decide if I should show his balls or not. Ah well... add it to the pile!

Locus and Cam all tied up for Boytoon Adventures #1. Since they don't actually appear together in the book, I decided to leave this pin-up image out!

Originally, I thought I might produce "faux covers" for each story contained in Boytoon Adventures #1. This image was to be used as the cover for the Cam story. Whne I junked the faux cover idea, I junked this image!

It’s all part of the creative journey and of the refining process.  And if nothing else, it makes for cool “behind the scenes”materials. Still, some of this stuff I quite like and enjoyed drawing, so I felt that you might like a little peek into my junk drawer!  LOL! ;)

Enjoy my friends. See ya tomorrow for — WHOA — my 10th post in a row! Phew! Haven’t posted like this since the first months of Boytoons Magazine.

Hugz + kisses, Patrick XOXO

PS — I plan on answering all the latest comments you have left at the end of this week of postings. Thanks again for reading my friends! It’s greatly appreciated! XOXO

BOYTOONS MAGAZINE #180 – Boytoon Adventures is here!

Boytoons Magazine #180 cover

Hiya everyone…

I have to tell ya – I am buzzin’ today!  BOYTOON ADVENTURES #1 is now shipping from Class Comics, and the book looks incredible.  I couldn’t be more proud.

As you know, about a year ago, I set out to experiment with new art styles, and my “Bryce Peters” drawing style was born.  It’s been a blast ever since, and BOYTOON ADVENTURES #1 has been a freeing and exhilarating ride.

But more than that, BOYTOON ADVENTURES #1 is the very first Class Comics Trade Paperback.  The presentation and printing are fantastic.  It’s slick and topped off with a beautiful, very classy matt finish… AND it’s over 90 pages of some of the naughtiest stories and art I’ve ever drawn.

Boytoon Adventures #1 is now on sale from Class Comics.

Here’s what Dale Lazarov, writer/editor of STICKY, MANLY and NIGHTLIFE had to say about BOYTOON ADVENTURES.

“Patrick Fillion, drawing in retro-cartoony animated style as Bryce Peters, reaches new levels of delightful filthiness with BOYTOON ADVENTURES.  It’s like Fillion’s given himself permission, with this simplified, dynamic style, to be both more light-hearted and raunchier than ever.  If you aren’t familiar with all of Fillion’s characters and ongoing Class Comics series, BOYTOON ADVENTURES will ensorcell you with their charms and outsized eroticism.”

Needless to say, I was quite touched by Dale’s review!  If you want to know more about BOYTOON ADVENTURES, check out the official mini site.  The site gives you a free preview of the book, and oh-boy – check out the mini webisodes featuring Locus and Zahn!  Really cool stuff.

The official BOYTOON ADVENTURES mini site is now live, and features a bunch of cool previews and goodies!

So grab yourself a copy.  I’m personally signing each one that is ordered directly from the Class Comics website.  And if you’re a fan who prefers to get his Class Comics stuff through your local GLBT bookstore or Comic Shop, by all means… ask your local retailers to get the book for you and to carry it in their store.

Help me spread the word about this project guys! It’s gonna pave the way for future Class Comics Trade Paperbacks. If you have a Blog or website and would like to talk about BOYTOON ADVENTURES,check out the official Class Comics press section.  You’ll find some great images ready to post, as well as other cool promo stuff you can use!

I wanna say a great big thank you to everyone for being so supportive of this new style.  It’s been awesome having you all encourage me and it means a great deal to me knowing how much you’ve all looked forward to BOYTOON ADVENTURES.  I hope you all enjoy it as much as I enjoyed creating it.

BOYTOONS MAGAZINE #161 – Boytoon Adventures #1 – An Update!

boytoons-magazine-161-cover

On issue #160 of BTM, I received a comment from Moonboy, asking if I might give you good people an update on Boytoon Adventures #1!  Moonboy read my mind!  I was planning this issue for a little while and figured now would be a great time to post it.

So… where am I at with Boytoon Adventures #1.  Simply put, I am 3 pages from being done!  WHOA!!!! Bet you didn’t expect that, huh? HA! HA! HA!

Yup!  The book now stands at a whopping 72 pages of story and a few extra pages of pin ups and other goodies!  It looks freakin’ wicked, if I do say so myself.  I’ve put a hellova lot of work into it, and so did Dennis, my colorist on this project.

boytoon-adventure-1-the-haunted-02

Dennis’ colors are amazing, and he perfectly nailed the stylized, cell shading coloring style I was looking for. Plus he did a gorgeous job coloring the character pin ups in his own superb style.  Just take a look at the oh-so sexy Diablo on this issue’s cover!  You’ll catch my drift! YUMMY!

There are six separate stories in this first trade, four of which are fifteen pages each, and though they are all drawn in my new “Bryce Peters” style, they are nevertheless an integral part of the Class Comics canon and mythology.

boytoon-adventure-1-the-trap

The book holds some very important developments in store for characters like Ghostboy and Diablo… developments that will most likely shock the heck out of you!  LOL!  The Zahn story is also pretty important to his mythology, and will directly impact events in Zahn #2.

You’ll also see Locus, Flamer, Captain Jung, Disco and Camili-CatCam in his raunchiest, yet touching story to date — as well as a few familiar faces from the Initiation.  On top of that, you’ll meet sexy new characters… including my eco-hero, Mako Finn.  Mako’s story is pretty brief, but it’s one that is very important to me.

boytoon-adventure-1-the-ruse

I am so pleased that Fraser wrote an extremely sexy Initiation short story called “The Match” for this issue that will show you how Zack became the pledge master of his fraternity, and introduce you to the delicious Wade and Topher! MMmmmm — college guys! LOL!  (I wanted to show you some art from “the Match” and from the Mako Finn story — but they are still being colored! Maybe next time! ;)

I actually even had a Space Cadet story planned for this issue, but I decided to save it for the next book – otherwise I could keep adding stuff to issue #1 forever!  It’s that fun to work on – but at some point, a boy’s gotta put a project to bed! HA! HA! HA!

boytoon-adventure-1-the-haunted-01

I’ve said it before and I will say it again – I love drawing as Bryce Peters.  It is one of the most artistically freeing things I’ve done in a long time.  The drawings just seem to flow, almost effortlessly, and it’s been a wildly fun and liberating experience putting this book together.

When I first announced this book, some of you expressed some concern over the way I draw dicks as Bryce.  Well, not to worry.  As the book evolved, it seems I decide to draw the penises almost exactly the way I draw them in my classic style.  So you will get those trademark Fillion cocks with my new Bryce Peters animation-inspired style!

Boytoon Adventures #1 is slated for Summer 2009 release and I will continue to update you as we get closer to the official release date.  In the meantime, I hope you will enjoy this little sneak peek at some of the interior artwork.

Have a great evening, dear friends.  More from me shortly!
Hugz + kisses,
Patrick XOXO

BOYTOONS MAGAZINE #154 – Happy Black History Month!

boytoons-magazine-154-cover

Hiya Gang…

Okay, so I am a bit late in the month wishing you all a very happy Black History month! I would have gotten around to it sooner, but I had some Blog troubles and had to go off line for a few days.  Ah well, everything is fixed now and you know what they say, better late than never.

To celebrate Black History month, I thought I’d post some of the art I’ve done for Black Inches over the years.  Incidentally, I am sadly no longer working for Black Inches.  The magazine has opted to use only photos to illustrate their short fiction from now on.  It’s sad for me because I truly loved drawing for them, but we parted on great terms and you know what else they say… nothing lasts forever.

I also want to say a great big thanks to my pal JC Etheredge for the wicked postings he’s made over at his Anti-Heroes Blog concerning Black History Month.  You really should check it out.  There’s some great stuff there, including JC’s very cool TOP 10 Implicitly black characters review.

Meanwhile, I wanted to mention that the “Show your Love (LUST) for Class Comics” contest has come to a close.  Now it’s time to vote for your favorite 3 entries.  All you gotta do is head on over to the Class Comics website and cast your vote.  Now remember boys and girls, this isn’t just about who showed the most skin!  Consider the creativity that went into each entry.  LOL! ;)  The polls close on March 7th, so don’t miss your opportunity to make your opinion heard.

BOYTOONS MAGAZINE #150 – Celebration time!

Good morning Gang!

So here I am at 150 issues and counting… Never thought it would come this far, this little Blog of mine.  But today, rather than wax eloquent about how wonderful it is to have blogged quite this much, I am going to share something with you that I find very frustrating as an artist.

Yes it’s true… I am currently feeling a touch of artist block!

Okay, so, not like that’s the end of the world… EXCEPT that this ailment seems to hit me EVERY TIME I am close to the end of a project.  In this case, it’s Boytoon Adventures #1 and Felinoids #3.

There could be a few reasons for this.  Maybe it’s because I draw stuff out of order, working on all the pages that inspire me the most first.  Maybe it’s because I work for too long on the same project and need a change of pace in order to keep on creatin’! (Isn’t that what Boytoon Adventures was supposed to be?!?!) Maybe it’s just because I’m being a whiny, flaky bitch… WHO KNOWS!  It may even be all of the above.

The truth is that I get SO EXCITED when I am near the end of a project, I think it makes my head explode, causing some sort of brain blockage that shuts down my drawing drive.  I get this way for several reasons, not the least of which is how much I look forward to sharing new books with you guys!  You realize you good folks are like, my fuel, right?  LOL! ;)

This is not meant to  pressure you in any way!  But if I were drawing for myself alone, that would hardly be any fun, would it!

I think when I stop and really think about it, there is a healthy case of nerves happening.  I will let you all in on a little secret – artists can be very insecure about their work sometimes and I am no exception.

Oh sure, I know what I’m doing.  God, I hope so after all these years!!!  But I want everything to be as perfect as possible… for me AND for you.  I thrive on making us all happy!

There was a time, back when I worked at Avatar for example, where I could put myself on “automatic” and just draw, draw, draw.  The difference then is that it wasn’t MY STUFF – it was someone else’s.  That meant thinking it to death WAY LESS because it wasn’t my own creation.  Seems that when it comes to my Boytoons, I second guess constantly!  Surely, I am not the only artist who does this, but man-o-man can it be a pain in the ass.

So this morning, I am looking at Boytoon Adventures #1 and Felinoids #3 and wishing I were working on Zahn #2!  WTF?!?!  Well… okay… the REAL truth is I wish I were playing “Left 4 Dead”, but that’s not gonna happen ‘cause I gots me a business to run!  LOL!

Don’t feel bad for yours truly, and please do NOT worry.  These dry spells never last very long with me.  I’ll be inspired again before you know it, and we’ll all see Boytoon Adventures #1 and Felinoids #3 in print soon enough. This is just how it works with me, I’m afraid.

Meanwhile, this wouldn’t be a celebration of coming this far with Boytoons Magazine if I didn’t thank all of you for sticking around and for being so supportive.  You all rock, and I luvs ya! So… thanks for the fuel, dear friends!  Ours is a symbiotic relationship! ;)

Hugz + Kisses,
Patrick XOXO

PS – That’s Cal on the cover of today’s issue.  He’s just one of the new Felinoids you’ll meet in Felinoids #3! I love his little spots! Toodles!
