What a HELL WEEK! Fraser and I have been sick like dogs! I guess it’s the change in the weather, but we’ve been down with colds for nearly seven days. But amidst all the coughing and hacking, there has been a bright spot, and I want to talk to you guys about it today! I am of course referring to Black Wade: The Wild Side of Love by the incredibly talented Italian creative duo, Franze & Andärle.
I gotta say, this is what gay male erotic comics is all about. With Black Wade you have a fantastic tale, deeply rooted in a time of where Pirates sailed the High Seas, coupled with artwork so sublime that you’re instantly in love. It’s a perfect blending of story and art which gives the reader a superb opportunity to escape to a time filled with romanticism and incredible adventure on the Seven Seas.

The story which was painstakingly developed, focuses on the dreaded pirate Black Wade. He has a cruel mind and an insatiable sexuality. His mercilessness is legendary, but wavers upon meeting the young Jack Wilkins, a warm-hearted English officer.
These two men couldn’t be more different, both helming from completely different walks of life. And yet, their attraction is absolutely undeniable. Their fate is sealed, and they are soon overwhelmed by their passion which unites them in a grand fight for freedom and love.
It’s an absolute pleasure getting to discover these characters. Despite his reputation as a scoundrel and a rogue, Black Wade is incredibly endearing and has a charming nature that is very hard to deny. Jack’s “situation” is at times almost heartbreaking and something that can be related to by many gay men. You can’t help but love this guy.

You know me, I hate giving too much away when it comes to the story, so I will let you all have the pleasure of diving into the book for yourselves. But I will say this… this 80-page volume is a sheer delight.
For me, Black Wade was far better medicine than any mug of Neo Citron. It’s an incredible, deliciously sensual adventure which is brought to life with a finesse that is pure graphic novel perfection. Black Wade is published in English by Bruno Gmünder, and in French by the good folks over at H&O.

Oh! This Looks Promising! The colors are just BEAUTIFUL!!
I loved Black Wade.
But more to the point.. 2 shots of good bourbon ( I recommend Woodbridge Reserve), 2 tablespoons of honey, the juice of 1 lemon top it off with African red or bush tea. A couple of these and you’ll sleep like a baby and your cold will be gone in 2 days.
Bought this a few weeks ago, and I must say, it was well worth it.

Just wanted to say a great bog THANK YOU to all of you for the well wishes! The cold is FINALLY gone. Now I am just stuck with that annoying dry cough thing that always seems to linger afterward. Ah well. That too shall pass! LOL!

I just got the book myself…. the quality of the illustration is amazing! I emailed the creators to congratulate and express my delight with work. They replied to say the volume took 4 long years.
I loved this book. Great art, great story.
