The Camili-Cat Boytoy that could’ve been!

I hope you’ve all had a great week, folks! Fraz and I were digging through archives this afternoon for an elusive file, when we stumbled upon a series of pics we thought I should share with you.

A couple of years ago, Fraz and I met a really talented young sculptor whom we hired to produce a Camili-Cat 12 inch action figure prototype. This guys was super talented, but led a pretty hectic life. Over the course of a year, he sculpted a really dynamic, sexy and anatomically correct Cam prototype. The photos I’ve posted here are all of various stages in the prototype’s development. I looked and looked, but don’t seem to have any of the later shots, when Cam was really close to completion.

Fraz and I lost touch with our sculptor on and off with our sculptor, until finally, when we were REALLY close to having a completed toy prototype that was ready to cast for production, we lost touch for good. I’m not sure what happened to him or the Cam sculpt, but wherever they is, I wish them all the best in the world!

You can imagine that we were pretty disappointed. We had big plans for this little Cam Boytoy… and those of you who’ve been following this Blog for a while know how much I LOVE action figures and what a dream come true a Camili-Cat action figure would have been.

Well unfortunately, this dream got postponed, but I firmly believe that someday the right people will come along and there will be such a thing as a Class Comics action figure line!

Still, looking back at these snapshots of the Camili-Cat prototype brings back fond memories of big hopes and good fun! I hope you guys like the shots. Believe me when I tell you that someday, I’ll be posting pics of ACTUAL OFFICIAL Class Comics Boytoon toys!

Good night to you all…
Cheers, Patrick XOXO

  1. Hey Patrick,

It’s been a while since I’ve posted, but I’ve definitely still been keeping track of the blog (it’s just been a crazy coupla weeks I guess). Anyway, the Cam figure looks fantastic! Too bad nothing ever came of the prelim work, but good luck on any future work in the action figure department – you’ve definitely got plenty of support and plenty of customers here. Personally, I can’t wait to actually be able to get my hands on some boytoons guys.

  2. Wow that would be a big dissapointment to loose such talent and that close to being finished. I’m really sorry to hear about the AWOL sculpting guy.

  3. Young Jedi!

Don’t feel to bad about this project not taking off, but if I know anything about you I know at the time it ripped your heart out.

When the timing is right for your Action figures to be released everything will fall into place and you will know in you head, heart and gut, that the timing is right.

And it’s just as well that it didn’t happen, sometimes creators of comics go into “Overkill” and the novelty wears of quick. Pace yourself Young Jedi, it will happen for you, I promise.

  4. Hey Patrick. Some time ago my partner came across a figure sculptor’s site who did a buncha gay superheroes and buff boys in singlets. His stuff looked cool– but very action figure. When he gets home, I’ll ask him if he remembers the link and I’ll fwd it to u.

Sucks the other guy didnt work out though. But maybe it’s for the best. I like the posable figures more anyway.

ANNND speaking of posable figs, I finally have a reason to show u this:

(Yeah my Shota obsession has grown since last we chatted about it!)

  5. Aww, it was such a beautiful figure he made too. I wonder what happened to him?

I’d love it if you managed to get someone to sculpt your boytoons so we can all buy them, have our own speical boytoon next to the computer each morning.

I’m sure, with the success Class is having these days, someone will offer to make your guys.

And JC, cool pic, I love the men of streetfighter! I tried to get Blanka and T-Hawk, but never got around to buying them.

  6. Charlie– try Ebay. I got my Blanka and THawk from a guy on ebay. Hawk was loose but Blanka was still in package. Also, if you don’t mind the variant colours, u can get them for REALLY cheap. Like yellow fei long was selling for like 2 bucks last time I looked.

  7. I would definitely support the move to producing action figures, the 1/6th scale especially. Have you tried contacting the sculptor of the Tom of Finland figure?
Perhaps even do a costume line making outfits and such from various issues of Class Comics

  8. Greetings Patrick

It’s quite a shame that nothing came of this, because this guy obviously knew what he was doing. However after reading this, I will be waiting for the day that I come hear to the blog and read that the official Class Comics Boytoon figures of Cam and his pals are on their way.

This actually reminds me of a small plaster sculpture I made for art class. It was quite magnificent if I do say so myself. Unfortunately it didn’t look quite so good after a minute or so drying in the microwave…

After recovering from a mild heart attack I started cleaning up the microwave and more importantly, my trousers. The best thing is though that my parents still don’t have a clue this happened!

jc, That’s quite a nice collection you have there. I’m not too big on collecting figures, but I do have three, 5-inch figures of Solid Snake, Raiden and Vamp from Metal Gear Solid 2 made by Yamato and a slightly larger figure of Leon from Resi 4.

    Lots of LOVE

  9. Id buy it…. Id buy it hard lol.

Absolutely amazing sculpt, I hope he didnt intend to fall out of touch.

  10. SHIT– I meant SOTA not Shota! Shota is something completely different! T____T

Nice! We’re not into toys, but Cam could EASILY change our minds!

  12. And when you do make the toys, I’ll be there in the cold, waiting for them to be released and taking them home to play with them!! Please let it be soon!! :D

  13. Good Morning, dear friends!

It was really wonderful to read your thoughts on this posting actually. It really broke my heart o be so very close to an actual Camili-Cat action figure, and then to have it slip through my fingers. Sigh. These things happen I suppose. Still, the thought of Class Comics Boytoys is really exciting to me, and I plan to explore new avenues to someday see this happen.

TJ! Great to hear from you! And no worries on not posting as often as you might like. I know how busy life can get! LOL! I just wanted to say thanks for your kind words or encouragement. I really believe that someday there will be an official Camili-Cat action figure! You can bet I will keep you posted!

Nick! Thanks for stopping by, my friend! Yup… it was very disappointing. But you know, mostly I just hope Chris (the sculptor) is alright. He had a pretty unusual life I guess, and I hope that wherever he is, he is happy! And hey, if nothing else, he gave me a glimpse of what could be AND provided me with a great subject for this post! LOL!!!

Mr. M! Thanks for the encouragement. I know that when the time is right, this will happen! You are probably right that it wasn’t meant to happen back then, and so it’s important to move on. It just sucks that Cam was almost complete though. I think if I had never even seen the sculpt, it would have been a bit easier to let go of it. Ah well, you win some, you lose some!

JC! Hey dude! LOVE your Street Fighter collection! HOLY CRAP—you have everyone under the sun almost! That is way cool! I stuck to the Resaurus line myself, but only because I thought it best NOT to start on another Street Fighter collection… I am running out of shelf space to display them! HA! HA! HA! I did get mysefl an Adon though. He’s my only Sota toy! And by the way, BWAH HA! HA! HA! HA! I laughed soooooooo hard at your SOTA not SHOTA comment! I didn’t figure you for a Shota lover! ;)

Meanwhile, could it be that the toy maker guy you are referring to it Tobias at IMATOY.com? His stuff is awesome! Check it out if you get the chance!

Charlie! Thanks for the kind words! It really was a bummer that this project fell through, especially because the figure looked like it was going to be so nice when completed. But I guess that is how the cookie crumbles. I hope someday that Class Comics Boytoys do happen so that we can all have one by our computer. My Flash action figure would LOVE a Cam to snuggle up to! HA! HA! HA!

Charvolth. Great suggestion! I have not gotten around to contacting the people responsible for the TOF toy just yet, but have it on my list of “must do’s”! Mostly, I liked how the TOF toy was done but felt there were a few things that could have been done a little better about him. I want my Boytoys to be perfect and would most likely want to be very involved in the process from the conception of the toy to the actual production and completion. Still the TOF people did a really nice job on much of the Rebel, and I am sure they would do a great job on Cam and his pals! To be continued…!

Hiroke! HA! HA! HA! Your comments are always soooooo fun! ? Glad you enjoyed the posting, and thanks for the kind words! I promise that if the day comes where official Class Comics Boytoys become a reality, I will be the first to let you know! Much love, my friend!

Gavin! Hello my friend! You know, the funny thing is that we considered having Cam sculpted with an erection, but then decided against it simply because we wanted to be able to slip his presumable cloth costume on! HOWEVER, this all happened before the TOF Rebel toy, and now it seems very possible that our boys would come equipped with poseable penises, much like the Rebel in some ways… but I would prefer our boys to have their attached on at all times.

As for the sculptor of this Cam, I am sure the losing touch was nothing personal. He was a really nice guy with a complicated life, that’s all. I have no ill will towards him, but someday, I would love to hear back from him and find out whatever happened to the sculpt!

Damian and Trent! Morning fellas! Glad to read that Cam could change your minds about toys! LOL!!! Yup… I’d like to think that a toy like this falls under the category of “novelty” or “collector’s item”. A lot of people who wouldn’t normally buy action figures for the sake of action figures, purchased the TOF Rebel and the Billy Gay Doll line, because they were so fun and unusual. It would be great of that happened with the Class Comics Boytoys as well! Someday, I really hope we will find out! :o)

Rebubble! Great of you to stop by… and thank you for your encouraging words! I also hope that you’ll have the opportunity to take a Cam toy home to play with really soon! :o)

Much love to you all… and thanks again for the wonderful comments!
    Patrick XOXO

  14. That thing is BEAUTIFUL!!!

    That’s all I got.

  15. Norman the Nomad says
