Patrick before the Boytoons…

Hey gang…

Okay, so I have a cool little secret to share with all of you. Before I decided to make sexy gay comics for a living, I was busy writing and performing dance music. YUP! I was an aspiring singer, and in the nineties I was actually signed to a local recording label, and I was giving it all I had, trying to make it big as a Popstar!

No, this is NOT a joke.

Music is a part of me that I have LONG since left behind, at least professionally, and I have never regretted choosing art over music, ‘cause I love drawing as you all know, and I love my characters to death. However, there are times I do miss music, and I sometimes long for the days where I was in the studio with my producer, singing my little heart out and recording a track.

It’s been nearly 10 years since I left the industry behind, and Fraz and I figured it might be really cool to share that part of my life with all of you guys. Soooooo… we’ve decided to release an official album of 11 professionally recorded tracks by yours truly. We called the album “Popstar in the Nineties” and it features 10 songs that I wrote back in the nineties, and a cool dance cover of the classic Habenara, which is one of my favorite tracks on the album. The songs all sound great ‘cause my producer Craig, who has worked with like, everybody, is a genius. They are definitely 90’s fun, and that’s why we called the CD “…in the Nineties”. These songs were pretty hip at the time and still hold up nicely today… or so I would like to think! LOL!!!

All that to say that the album is out and available at my website… We made use of Cafepress’ great service to put this baby out. The songs were all professionally recorded and mastered in a real recording studio. We totally went with the whole “Popstar” concept. I hope you won’t think any less of me when you see the photos and album artwork, though. Fraz is responsible for those, and well, they’re a little saucy! HA! HA! HA! But at least I am wearing shades! LOL!!! I’ve posted the album cover for you guys to check out!

Fraz and Alexis are making a pretty big deal about this album release, and they even created an official album T-Shirt and Promo poster for the launch. Honestly, I think they are having waaaaaay too much fun with all of this! HA! HA! HA!

Anyhow, check it out if you’re curious. I’d love to hear your thoughts on all of this… and don’t worry. I am perfectly happy being an artist of gay comics. So I will not be quitting Class to suddenly be on Canadian Idol or anything…besides, I am considered “over the hill” for both Canadian and American idols! HA! HA! HA!

So enjoy my friends! As always, it is wonderful to share with you! I’ll have more Boytoons for you very shortly!

Hugz + Kisses
Patrick XOXO

PS – On a cool side note, this is actually my 100th Posting! Pretty cool, huh! Here’s to the next 100 ! Ciao for now! XOXO

  1. Hello Patrick!

Wow, now this is a very pleasant surprise. I had a listen to the music samples on offer and am very impressed. LOVE the cover by the way! Now I love singing. In fact, I am typing now while singing “Jody” by Tatsuro Yamashita, a 80’s Japanese pop song. For some reason I have always been out of step compared to other people my age when it comes to music taste. So while other people my age listens to music that sounds like a load of four year olds banging things with Fisher-Price hammers, I will listen to classical tunes, golden oldies from the 60’s 70’s disco and 80’s pop. Just like art, singing is a way of expressing yourself, it’s just that some express themselves somewhat better than others. I used to be in the school choir, God knows how I did it, because if I open my mouth to sing I make a noise very similar to a dog if you tread on it. Still, it’s one of the most satisfying things to just let rip and sing at the top of my voice, until that is social services come to shut me up…

  2. You have a lovely voice! I listened to your interview with uhm SuperFag I believe it was called? You sounded very kind on there and you sound very kind in your songs!

Oh also I was wondering if you liked the little Camili sketch I did for you awhile back. I believe Alexis was going to get it up on the fan page? I’m not sure, I don’t have the pass thingy or a credit card. =/ I just was hoping that it put a smile on your face!

  3. Damian & Trent says

Mellow voice, man. Clear & on-pitch. “Habanera” is smooth as heck. French-Canadian in Cuba. The scene could not be sexier. What a kick.

We both like to sing, too, & often do. We’re mostly into classical & worldbeat.

We can sing Bizet’s tenor-baritone duet, “Au fond du temple saint”, tho our French would likely make your skin crawl.

Are you equally fluent in French & English? French is sweet to hear.

    Thanks for sharing your talent.

All my love to you on your special day, always.

Did you change some words from Bizet’s original? Our speakers aren’t very good. Sounds like “oiseau rebelle” became another kind of bird.

    Or maybe:

“Patrick est un oiseau rebelle, que nul ne peut apprivoiser.”

    You’re cool, Patrick.

    Damian & Trent

  7. Hey Nick!

I’ve seen your great pic of Cam in the Adult section. VERY NICE.

If you have a blog or somewhere that you put your work I would love to know so I can see more.

  8. Flaming Freddy says

OMG you have a great voice, Patrick! All of the samples sound so good! I think it’s so cool that you sing as well as draw. I do too. Singing and playing the piano are some of my passions and I’m thinking about pursuing a career in performance. But like you, I’m also considering being an artist instead since my whole life I’ve been interested in illustration and animation.

Right now, I’m just learning as much as I can and practicing it all, but I’m at that point in my life where I’ll be choosing soon enough like you did. That’s really helpful that you can say that you chose one over the other but don’t have any regrets. :D

  9. dreamerboy6 says

Wow! Cute picture! Your nipples remind me of NJ’s! =) I’m excited to hear you sing!

  10. dreamerboy6 says

OMG, Patrick! I LOVE Habanera! Your voice is AMAZING! “No More” actually reminds me of Savage Garden a bit. Your voice sounds great in English too, but my favorite songs were OVNI, Habanera and Le Sais-Tu. I LOVE Habanera. Your voice is just MADE for singing in romantic languages. WOWS!

  11. Hehe Thanks very much Manny! I always stop to read your comments here! I’ll have to get myself an adult art section up sometime. I’m still horrible with ink though- I’m working on that! I admire Patrick immensely on the fact he draws and inks in the traditional ways. (Many kudos from me tha tyou keep it up patrick, I envy and study your inking ways!)

  12. Hey Patrick,
When I first saw the pic of You, and read the first few lines of the blog entry, I thought You were going to tell us You used to be a porn star or did nude modeling for mags or something to that effect. After the initial “disappointment”;( I had to settle for a ‘different kind of excitment’, getting to hear your singing voice;) Great Music! At least You did share, and You’re a Pop Star to a few of us!……, if we can just drop the ‘p’ and add the ‘rn’, You can have a whole ‘nether career!:O

sorry, I’m like Fras and Alexis, I’m getting to much enjoyment outa this!…..You know I Love Ya!!

  13. HAPPY BIRTHDAY PATRICK!!! And many more!

  14. I might just as well say it here as well. HAPPY BIRTHDAY PATRICK!!! *runs around throwing confetti and streamers*

  15. Charlie MJR says

    Happy Birthday Patrick!

Wow, how’d you sneek this one up on us. A single… your going to be like the Scissor Sisters now, lol.

    Very cool.

  16. Sigh. Its been a long time…

Hi-ya Patrick! Just dropping by to say hello. ^_^ And you sing. Haha! Wow. Homo Universale. ^_^

Anyway, got something to tell you. See,I submitted this Jon Dazy fan art in Y!gallery. Somebody commented why I colored Dazy’s haircolor green. And I was like, “You’re in Y!gallery and you don’t know Patrick Fillion?!” (Assuming he hasn’t come across your work since he wasn’t familiar with Jon Dazy.)

That was so incredible. And I’m already from the Philippines but I still got to see your art. Haha! I told him outright to visit your website. The poor thing almost missed half of his life?

So looking forward to the next 100 posts. Love ya! ^_^

    – Szadek (My name there. Somebody already used the username Asmodeus. Sigh.)

  17. Wow Patrick I am impressed! I was not too sure when I saw this but when I listened to the samples I was amazed! The music was actually good. I guess you are a man of many talents! I may just have to buy a copy of this CD. ^_^
Oh by the way this is FallenMessiahX or aka Seiya. I have a blog started up too…check it out some time.

  18. Hello Patrick,

first of all: Happy birthday!!!… err… sort of, since I forgot to congratulate You on time. Typical me :( Sorry, but manny knows what a date-slut I am…

Anyways, it’s cool to see that You once were a rockstar just like myself! I’m a geetar-player and I tried to make a living out of it in the nineties as well.
Hm… come to think of it, You became one of the best erotic artists ever, I became a nerd. Well, whatever, I don’t regret having left music, but still: I am very curious about Your CD! :D

As soon as I get a new CreditCard, I’ll order Your shop empty, promise!

All the best to y’all friends!!!

  19. My boyfriend knows about your work, but he HUGE into the music industry. This is the perfect fit for introduced more of your art to him. He’s dying to check out your album! So am I.

And of course Happy Birthday, buddy.

  20. Double bitch slap to Phrog, 1) For being tardy and 2) for calling yourself a nerd!

  21. Hey Fellas…

Great to hear from ya! Glad you enjoyed the new online comic strip section on my site. I think this section will allow me to vary up the characters I feature in the single page strips and give me the chance to feature a whole whack of other Boytoons.

Hiroke… Spending all ones’ money on games is okay, so long as they are good ones! LOL!!! As for gums, well…… I hope they were tasty, ‘cause it sounds like they were painful to chew! :o) XOXO

Charvolth… HA! HA! HA! The way that boot was yanking on poor Locus’s scrotum, I bet it wasn’t only steel toed, but stuffed with a brick as well! LOL!!! Glad you enjoyed the strip, my friend!

Manny…It’s so cool to read that you enjoy perusing my wares over and over again! As for your question about a jeanie type character, you’ll be happy to know that one of the Zahn characters is of that nature. He’s very cool and I promise, if there is ever a cartoon done up based on the series, I will NOT get Robin Williams to voice him! LOL!!!

Phrog…I’m so pleased you enjoyed a bit of Locus in peril. I think you will like the next few strips I have planned for the site if you enjoy the “hero in peril” scenario. Thanks again for the comment my friend!

Hugz + kisses to all of you!
    Patrick XOXO

    Hello Gang…

Thanks for all being so awesome with me and so willing to give this other side of my art a shot! I have to confess, I was pretty nervous about announcing this little CD project, but you guys have totally eased my worries! Again, my sincerest thanks to the whole lot of you! :o)

Hiroke… It was very cool to learn that I am not the only artist that also counts music as part of his art! I think that as creative people, artists often like to express themselves in many different ways and through varying forms of art. Music just seems like such a natural way to do this. It’s very cool to read that you enjoy this as well, and don’t you EVER let Social Services try to shut you up! LOL!!!

Nick… thank you so much for the lovely compliments. It’s cool that you gave my samples a listen, and I am glad to hear that you did not run screaming for the hills when you heard me sing! HA! HA! HA!

Meanwhile, I did indeed receive your GORGEOUS illustration of Cam and posted it on my site with a great deal of pride. I also sent you a reply, which by the sounds of it did not reach you! Stoopid email and Stoopid technology! Sometimes, they can be so unreliable. Sorry about that! Suffice it to say that I ADORE the image and think you are very talented! I would love to see more of your work someday, so don’t be shy! Any time you feel like sharing I am always happy to see what you do! :o)

Damian and Trent… Hello Boys! :o) Glad you enjoyed the samples! Habanera was such fun to do, and you are correct, we did modify portions of it slightly. In fact, the second verse is in English. As for your question about being bilingual, you are correct. I do speak French and English fluently. I was born in Quebec and moved out to British Columbia at a very young age, and I am so grateful to my parents for insisting that I maintain my French! I have found that having more than one language has been a real benefit in my life…plus it is fun to write and sing in both French and English!

Manny… BWAH-HA! HA! HA! You are too funny…and honestly, if I ever decide I need a publicist for my so called Music career, I know who to call! Only if you think I would ever be caught dead on a stage with Ms. Houston, you are sadly mistaken! HA! HA! HA! Just kidding! ;) Glad you enjoyed the music, my friend! And as always, I love your wacky sense of humor. Now all I need to do is open for either Madonna or Kylie… and do that duet with Annie Lennox I have dreamed about for like, ever! LOL!!!

Flaming Freddy… Hello my friend! Thanks!! I think you’re pretty cool too! LOL! Very cool to hear that you are also an artist of both medias. Yeah—choosing was a hard thing, but as I said, I have no regrets. It all depends on what you want out of life. Music was threatening to be far too public a lifestyle for me. I tend to be more private (although I am not entirely certain you can believe that from ANYONE with a Blog! LOL!) and I like the calmer side of life. Drawing comics has been an amazing experience because I feel like I am actually contributing something very positive as an artist to the Gay community, and that means a lot to me. I don’t know that I could have done that had I chosen music after all. Still, nothing says that once you make your choice, you must COMPLETELY give up your second love. I have not sought a professional music career, but I have my guitar and I sign daily. But think carefully if you decide you need to choose. Some people can do both. I just was not one of them myself! Class needed my complete attention and I have never looked back .

Dreamerboy6… Thanks for the compliment… although NJ’s nipples are MUCH bigger than mine! LOL!!! Meanwhile, I am so pleased you enjoyed the music samples. No More is probably my second fave track on the album (the order being Habanera first, and then No More and I Still Need You being tied for second). It’s a song I wrote with the band I was in in high school. It was one of our most popular tunes, and I always felt that properly produced, it could be a great track. Any song I can layer up my voice and do harmonies is a special blast for me. There are soooo many vocals piled on top of one another on No More, I still to this day can’t count them all separately! LOL!!! Thanks again for the lovely comments!

Nick… Hey, glad you like my inks! I am totally old school, and though I really admire the way some artists use computers to ink, I love the feel of a good old fashioned inking pen. Besides, I think inking can be a bitch, but also a great deal of fun, and very satisfying!

Zio… Thanks for the compliments, you naughty boy! No, I am afraid a career in pron is not in the stars for me. I don’t have the muscles for it! LOL!!! But I was really pleased to read that you enjoyed the music samples form “Popstar…” and that playing them didn’t blow up your speakers! LOL!!! Seriously though, it’s way cool that you are having fun with this! If I ever do porn, I’ll be sure to let you know! HA! HA! HA! That’s like saying, if I ever shoot lightning from my wee wee… ;) Much love my friend!

Gene Gray… Hey, thanks for the B-Day wishes, my friend! You are too sweet! :o)

Hiroke… thanks to you too for the B-day wishes…and the confetti! :o)

Charlie… It’s fun that I can still surprise you guys with stuff like this! LOL!!! But I think the Scissor Sisters will always be the more popular Postars! HA! HA! HA! All you have to do is listen to their new single “ I don’t feel like dancing” to understand why!

Asmodeus… Hello my friend! Your Jon Dazy is GORGEOUS!!!! Please tell me you are going to finish coloring him and then send me a copy for the Blog and for my site?!?! I ADORE HIM!!! You did a fabulous job on good ol’ Jon, and I would love to post him! :o) Meanwhile, why can I not find your Blog anywhere?!?!

By the way, I love that term “Homo-Universal”!!! LOL!!! Great to hear from you again!

FMX… Great to hear from you, my friend! I am glad you enjoyed the music samples form my album! Also, it was way cool to get a comment from you and to see that you have your own Blog…which is way cool by the way! I just did up an issue of BTM on your fabulous stuff. I hope you enjoy it! :o)

Congrats on all the great stuff you are up to! The Blog looks wonderful, and so does your gallery at the Y! Can’t wait to see more!

Phrog… Thanks so much for the birthday wishes… and though I won’t slap you like Manny… he is right! You are NOT a nerd! It’s kinda cool to know
that I am not the only musician who tried to make a go of the music thing in the nineties. I will never see what you and I did as a failure, quite the contrary. We had ourselves a real music career and gave it our best. Not every one is destined to be a Madonna or a Michael Jackson (and thank GOD for that last part!!!), but I think that we had is pretty special, and it’s a part of my life that I will always cherish! GOSH… I sound like I am talking about some steamy love affair or something… LOL!!!

Gymtwin… Glad you are having fun with this! You can tell your boyfriend that I am always open to new opportunities….. ;) LOL!!!

Thanks for your support and encouragement on all of this, you guys! It means a lot. And if you do pick up the album, I’d love your feedback: what you liked, what you didn’t like, what your fave song was, that sort of thing!

Much love and hugz and kisses to each and every one of you!
    Patrick XOXOXOXO
