BOYTOONS MAGAZINE #215 – HOTCHA WORKS!

What better way to start 2012 than with Hotcha’s incredible new website!  YES!  After many years of admiring Hotcha’s gorgeous and supremely sexy art via the Y!Gallery, you can now enjoy it on the official Hotcha website; HOTCHA WORKS!

The site’s lovely and clearly designed with ease of navigation in mind.  All the illustrations are presented in large, easy-to-drool-over sizes which really emphasize the beauty of Hotcha’s art.  Hotcha even takes the opportunity to treat us to some personal notes on most of the art, revealing what inspired him to draw them.  He turns us on further by providing some narratives and written context which set up some of the illustrations perfectly.  Clearly, Hotcha is an artist who loves to share his work and that’s good for us the fans, because the treats keep on coming.

Meet DRAKE, Hotcha's sexy signature character!

From his original characters like the ultra-fuckable Drake and his equally to die for counterparts, Ike and Eli, to his Dragonball fan art, his  interpretations of fellow artist Ephorox’s stable of studs, and even his stunning Class Comics fan art, Hotcha delivers the eye candy in his usual spectacular manner. HOTCHA WORKS does not disappoint, and most of Hotcha’s classic and recent pieces are there to be adored by us ravenous fans.

Hotcha draws Drake fucking the Hell outta Ephorox's sexy feline character, Tyon!

Now a couple of years ago, Hotcha was in Vancouver and Fraser and I got to meet up with him.  I absolutely love this boy!  He’s as sweet as he is talented, and the opportunity to chat with him in person was truly amazing.  He’s so down to Earth and talking erotic comics and art with him was a real blast.  His love of his craft is apparent, and his raw and unabashedly raunchy works are charged with an erotic power that you can’t help but admire.

Poor Drake can't take much more from this horribly horny cyclops!

But Hotcha’s work isn’t without context.  He’s careful to set up a back story for every image he creates, which is what I love most about him. That really charges his work with a palpable sense of sensuality that is hard to ignore.

So while the Holiday Season may be over, I personally consider HOTCHA WORKS as a Christmas present, one that I’ve been wanting for years, and one that I most certainly was NOT disappointed to finally receive.  And best of all, knowing how prolific this super talented artist is, I know it’s a gift that’s gonna keep on giving.

Do yourself a favor, and head on over to HOTCHA WORKS RIGHT NOW!  If you don’t already know Hotcha and his signature character Drake, you’re not gonna want to miss out a minute longer. And if you’re a long-time Hotcha fan, you’ll love revisiting Hotcha’s classic works, and discovering his latest offerings!

Ike gets it on with a sexy serene angel! Beautifully erotic art by HOTCHA!

My time at BENT-CON 2011!

So I’ve been home from BENT-CON for almost two weeks now, and I don’t mind telling you that I am STILL BUZZED from my INCREDIBLE experience.

Both Fraser and I were on a natural high the entire weekend. The opportunity to meet some of our fans in person and talk with them – with YOU – about our comics and characters was so amazing to us. You really showed us just how appreciated our work is, and for that I cannot thank you enough.

Robert Fraser and Patrick Fillion of Class Comics at BENT-CON 2011.

We really felt that we don’t leave our studio often enough, and that we do in fact NEED to step out and partake in more events like BENT-CON so that we can meet more of our fans. Talking to the real people who love Class Comics has really helped us to identify the things we are doing correctly, the things we need to do more of, as well as some of the things we’ve done that haven’t worked quite as well. These revelations are invaluable as really help to give us a sense of direction for the future.

So again, thank you to all the fans that were able to come and see us in person, and to all the fans who supported us from afar. You know that you guys and gals make this the VERY BEST JOB ON THE PLANET for Fraser and I, and we just love creating our comics for you. You’re the BEST!

Robert Fraser, the writer of the hit comic series "The Initiation" was at BENT-CON 2011, signing comics for fans.

Another aspect of BENT-CON that both Fraser and I completely loved was getting to meet other queer creators. There were so many amazingly talented folks present at BENT-CON – people which I’ve spoken to via email for years – and we finally got to meet in person for the first time.

There are too many to name  here, but I can’t tell you how completely OVERJOYED I was to get the chance to meet folks like Sean Z, Jezza Smilez, Sean Platter, Belasco, JJ Kirby, William Tyler, Jon Macy, Joe Phillips, Brad Rader, Justin Hall, Jeff Jacklin, Michael Kirwan, Alex Woolfson,Wendi Pini, Steven H. Garica– and this impressive list goes on, and on, and on. (Apologies for not listing everyone here — a complete list of all creators and exhibitors is available on the BENT-CON website.) So many creative and inspirational people were present, and I LOVED that artists such as the fabulous Vishis and the wonderful Iceman Blue, who despite not being part of the exhibiting artists, took time out of their weekend to come and say hello to Fraser and I! SO VERY COOL!

Robert Fraser chatting with Class Comics fans at BENT-CON 2011.

After years of email communication and of mutual artistic appreciation, I FINALLY got to meet the incredible JOTTO!  What a pleasure it was getting to see some of his original artwork in the flesh, and to chat with him about his creative process and inspirations.  The man is as sweet as he is talented, and I don’t mind telling you that he treated me to a pile of prints of his gorgeous artwork. Again – BLISS!!!  LOL!

The weekend was like Christmas morning come early! LOL! I got to sample the wares of several creators, and it was so great exchanging comics and art. I do wish I’d had even more time to peruse everyone’s work… but time flew by so fast. However, I HAD to show you this AWESOME sketch that the incomparable BRAD RADER drew for me in my copy of his Vertigo book, “FOGTOWN”.  What a sweetheart! He signed the book for me and drew me this super hung, super sexy Black Hunk as a special treat!  LOL!  I love this!  It’s just one of the many wonderful moments that made BENT-CON so much fun for me.

The awesome BRAD RADER drew me a gorgeous black hunk with the BIGGEST WANG EVER!

The weekend’s panels were also terrific.  Fraser and I were invited as guest speakers on several of them, and we had a fantastic time speaking about our work and on our impression of Gay Erotic art, comics and queer publishing in general.

The Fanboys of the Universe costume contest was a BLAST!  Fans really put a lot of effort into their costumes, and speaking as one of the official judges, I can tell you that picking the winners was NO EASY TASK! Everyone who participated was TOP NOTCH and incredibly creative!

On a personal note, I was so THRILLED to finally get to meet my pal, the fabulous JOHNNY M in person for the very first time. Johnny was as amazing in person as I expected him to be, and more.  The opportunity to solidify such friendships, and renew existing ones was literally PRICELESS and so greatly appreciated.

Johnny M and Patrick Fillion in Amoeba Music, Los Angeles, the weekend of BENT-CON 2011.

I also truly enjoyed meeting emerging artists for the first time.  I got to see some wonderful new artwork and discover the talents of creators whose work I will enjoy watching grow and flourish. Choklit Daddy was one such artist.  Check out his blog for a look at his sexy toons!

So yeah – a great time to be sure! So many wonderful blessings in one all-too short weekend. Connecting with everyone was completely amazing, and being in beautiful Los Angeles was glorious.

As well as BENT-CON, our weekend in LA also brought Fraser and I another very special gift… but I’m reserving that news for down the road. Heh! Heh! Heh!  ;)

So again, thank you all so much – from the fans, to the fellow creators, to the wonderful folks – you all made BENT-CON 2011 such a HUGE success, and such an incredible experience for Fraser and I! :D  Now we’re looking forward to BENT-CON 2012! LOL!

What a treat to finally meet fellow queer comic book creators in person. Fraser and Patrick pose with the hunky Jezza Smilez!

If you’d like to see some more photos from our BENT-CON weekend, check out the official Class Comics BENT-CON report!  And for more info on BENT-CON and official recaps from the event, check out the official BENT-CON website.

And to my beloved readers, thank you as well for your kind words of support and encouragement. My Christmas issue is coming up, and I have a little something special planned for you all.

Much love and smooches all around!  Patrick! XOXOX

Published by BRUNO GMUNDER, HEROES WITH HARDONS: THE BIG BOOK OF CLASS COMICS isn't just big... it's HUGE!

HEROES WITH HARDONS is printed on high quality gloss paper, and beautifully bound between two gorgeous hard covers.  Seriously, this book is nothing short of INCREDIBLE.

I’m just so proud of it.  This book symbolizes a major accomplishment for Class Comics.  It’s a true milestone; an homage to what Class as a company has created, inspired and what it’s capable of.  And to have it all published by BG makes me so proud. For me personally it says, “Way to go, Class Comics! These pages and your accomplishments are pop art worth celebrating!”

To everyone who had a hand in making this book a reality — from all the brilliant creators, to the wonderful folks at BG, to all of the awesome Class Comics Fans, my sincerest thanks.

BOYTOONS MAGAZINE #213 – RAPTURE #4… Behind the Scenes!

RAPTURE #4 is finally out and available from Class Comics, and I thought it would be a great deal of fun to give you good people a little behind the scenes glimpse at this very exciting book!

Why am I SO EXCITED about RAPTURE #4? Easy! It’s because this book marks three amazing CLASS COMICS firsts that are pretty damn memorable.

To begin with, the brilliant LOGAN draws ZAHN for the very first time in this issue. I was so thrilled when Logan agreed to take on a story for RAPTURE #4 that I wrote him a very special story called “The Altar of Szabarnak”. In this story, Zahn wants to communicate with the Vardan Spirit World. This leads him to meeting a strange little wizard named ZULLBA who informs him that to do this, he must commune with the mystical Altar of Szabarnak – an ancient artifact that requires Zahn’s sperm in order to come to life! Dontcha hate it when that happens?! LOL!

Unfinished art by LOGAN, from the RAPTURE #4 Zahn story, "The Altar of Szabarnak". RAPTURE #4 now available from Class Comics.

Completed art by LOGAN, from the RAPTURE #4 Zahn story, "The Altar of Szabarnak". RAPTURE #4 now available from Class Comics.

What’s so awesome about this story is that it permitted Logan to come up with the very unique looks of three amazing and incredibly sexy new barbarian characters; ROAN, LAKOZA and YTLA! Logan really ROCKED the design on these three Vardan Hunks, and they put Zahn through one Hell of a fuckfest!

Character concept designs for the RAPTURE #4 Zahn story, "The Altar of Szabarnak". Art by LOGAN.

The art in “Szabarnak” is absolutely superb, and it’s such a treat seeing the Son of Winter drawn in Logan’s style. Zahn is beautifully muscled and smooth, and more than up to the challenge of satisfying three hot and horny Barbarian spirits who want a piece of his ass. The colors Logan employed are truly beautiful as well, and give a nice “chilled” feel to the story. It’s a great piece, and I’m sure that fans will appreciate Logan’s fantastic take on Zahn and his new companions.

Secondly on RAPTURE #4, I had the chance to collaborate with an artist I have admired for a very long time. Of course I’m referring to the incredible SOTO, who illustrated a fresh new DEIMOS story I wrote for him, called “Deimos’ Inferno”.

Soto’s take on Deimos is brilliant. The Taro Demon is gruff, rugged, manly and completely hot. Soto’s art is itself beautifully moody and atmospheric, and this suits the story perfectly. In “inferno”, Deimos decides to try and take BOB by surprise by infiltrating Hell and attacking him where he least expects it… on his home turf. Naturally, not all goes Deimos’ way, and our hero’s plans are foiled by the demon HEMEC and his lackeys.

SOTO makes his Class Comics debut drawing Deimos in RAPTURE #4. Pencils by Soto.

SOTO makes his Class Comics debut drawing Deimos in RAPTURE #4. Finished art by Soto.

Soto created the looks for Hemec’s demonic pals and I did a truly superb job of it. The twin demons, GAUL and BILE are really wicked looking with their inversed snapped horns, tribal tats, and opposing eye-patches, while BELAGAUZ is just too monstrous for words!

I love this story because it finally shows a more submissive side to Deimos, who becomes the power bottom of the day for these four nasty demons. But don’t get too accustomed to Deimos’ submissive side… he’s soon on top of things again!

This story is wonderfully “Deimos” and I couldn’t be happier with Soto’s take on the character and the story. You’ll see for yourself just how rich and detailed this wonderful artists’ work really is.

A completed Camili-Cat page from the story "Changes" in Class Comics' RAPTURE #4. Art by Patrick Fillion. Colors by Hernan Cabrera and Patrick Fillion.

And lastly, RAPTURE #4 features the very – and I do mean VERY (in fact I’ve received a number of very angry letters and hate mail about it) CONTROVERSIAL – Camili-Cat short story “CHANGES”, in print for the very first time. It’s a real pleasure seeing this Cam story on the printed page. I feel it’s such a turning point – a real defining chapter in his life. Seeing it in the pages of RAPTURE #4 just reminds me of how integral to the Class Comics Universe Camili-Cat really is. It’s a story I loved writing and one I truly enjoyed illustrating.

If you’re wondering WHY “Changes” is so controversial, then you don’t already know and I won’t spoil it for you. Suffice it to say that Cam gets an EXTREME new look, and some fans love it, some fans HATE IT… and probably also hate ME for making it happen… but you know, Cam needed a change… and this is a doozy!

The CONTROVERSIAL story "Camili-Cat: Changes" is in print for the very first time in the pages of Class Comics' RAPTURE #4.

On top of all of that, the wonderful HERNAN CABRERA and I once again worked together to bring Camili-Cat to colorific life in “Changes”, and RAPTURE #4 is beautifully lettered by the fabulous JOHNNY MURDOC! I tells ya, a TERRIFIC issue!

RAPTURE #4 is now shipping form Class Comics, and it’s available as a Printed Comic or as a Digital Comic, so you’re free to pick your poison. I will say this, the issue is one of my favorite installments of this series so far. I’m very pleased with and proud of all three stories. This book gave me the opportunity to work with some truly talented people, and for that I am truly grateful. This is why I make comics! LOL!

RAPTURE #4 is now available from CLASS COMICS!

Enjoy the book, my friends. It’s a WHOPPER! And stay tooned, I’m still preparing a MEGA FAN ART issue, and I’ll be posting some awesome BENT-CON photos and stuff when I get back from the Con in December.

Enjoy your weekend! SMOOCHES to all!  Patrick XOXOXO

My ALPHA FLIGHT fan art on the “COVERED” Blog!

Art should be inspiring! As a kid growing up, developing my own artistic skills, few inspired me more than the legendary John Byrne. Alpha Flight was (and the John Byrne classic run still is) one of my all-time favorite comic series. The characters are diverse and exciting, and beautifully designed in their elegant simplicity and attention to detail.

A few years back, I decided to re-interpret the now classic Alpha Flight #6 cover… well, re-imagine it a little I suppose. This was my way of thanking John Byrne for all of his extraordinary work and for showing my appreciation for Snowbird, who has ALWAYS been my favorite Alphan.

I recently came upon a terrific Blog called “COVERED: Artists re-interpreting comic covers”.  The Blog is run by Robert Goodin, a wonderful artist with a great love of comics.  He’s assembled an AMAZING collection of gorgeous re-imaginings of classic comic book covers by dozens and dozens of talented artists.

This Blog simply has to be seen to be believed.  There are some real gems in Robert’s collection.  Anyway, I just had to submit my Alpha Flight #6 cover to him, and couldn’t be more ecstatic to tell you that he added it to his Blog collection this morning.

Patrick Fillion's Alpha Flight #6 cover re-interpretation now on "Covered" Blog.

You guys ABSOLUTELY MUST check “COVERED” out. It’s so creative and fun, and seeing all that work by all those creative artists collected in one place is incredibly inspiring.  Thanks Robert for putting all of this together, and for adding my modest little cover to your collection.

Enjoy my friends. I know I sure did!

Cheers to all, Patrick XOXOX

PS — And just for the fun of it, here’s a little “variant” of my version of Alpha Flight #6′s cover… more closely resembling John Byrne’s classic masterpiece! Enjoy! :D

BENT-CON is the convention for encouraging, celebrating and appreciating LGBT and LGBT-friendly comic-book artists, writers, creators, publishers, directors and producers, creating media targeted directly to LGBT audiences or as part of the larger realm of mainstream pop-culture as a whole.

Fraser and I will be there to meet and chat with fans, sell and sign comics, hand out Class Comics promo freebies and other fun stuff. We’re also gonna take part in some awesome panels and discussions, and I’ll even be one of the official judges for the Fanboys of the Universe sponsored Costume Catwalk contest.

Other amazing Class Comics creators such as Zan Christensen and Mark Brill, the creative team of the award-winning the Mark of Aeacus, will also be in attendance and you won’t want to miss them either.

BENT-CON is the perfect convention environment for Class Comics. For the first time since it’s creation, Class will be on site in all it’s glory and with no holds barred, ready to connect with its fans.  We’ll even debut 2 brand new comic books, WAY AHEAD of their intended 2012 release dates! How cool is that? Supplies are limited, so come early!

The weekend event will be filled with tons of exhibitors, guests, panels, film-viewings and parties and attended by names you’ll recognize from various creative industries.
